About the program

There are so many sound qualities in an orchestra: instruments as varied as the animal kingdom!  Experience the sounds, moods, and motions of animals, from crickets to dinosaurs.  Music by Brahms, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Dave Brubeck, and Ilari Hykilä.  We'll be joined by a Production Team of middle school students from St. Stephen's Episcopal School and Camp Curtin Academy.

The WSSO, led by Jennifer Sacher Wiley, has developed over a dozen original, scripted "concert dramas" ideal for students in grades K-6.  For the last three seasons we offered productions for schools in our region, teaching concepts such as orchestral texture, and rhythm & tempo.  Our 2025 program, "Vacation with the Orchestra", teaches about music and culture.  In recent years, we have collaborated with a Production Team of middle school students from Camp Curtin Academy & Saint Patrick School, the Eagle View middle school orchestra, and cello soloist Michael Cameron.
