Announcing our 2026 Concerto Competition!

for high school STRING PLAYERS residing in PA

Winner's solo feature concert with WSSO Sunday, May 3, 2026

 Information & Procedures 

Eligibility:  Contestants must be string players (harp & guitar included),  residents of Pennsylvania and be in grades 9-12 during the 2025-26 school year.

Repertoire:  Select one movement of a concerto.  This will be the piece for the video audition, competition finals (if selected) and winner's performance.  Please consider community orchestra capability when selecting a piece.  Maestro Wiley happy to discuss with you/your teacher (jswiley@susqu.edu)

Video audition:  Record your concerto movement in its entirety and submit to Dr. Wiley by December 5, 2025 (jswiley@susqu.edu).  Make sure settings allow viewing for anyone with link.

Finalists will be notified by December 12.  You may request Dr. Namminga as an accompanist (see below) or bring your own pianist.  Finalists will perform in Stretansky Hall at Susquehanna University on January 11, 2026.  Finalists will draw numbers for competition order.

Judges will include at least two string players, plus the WSSO conductor (a professional violinist), plus one or two WSSO Board members.

Monday, 4/27, time TBA (between 7:15-9:30 pm)

Rife Center for Performing Arts, Mechanicsburg PA

Saturday, 5/2, time TBA (between 10:00 am-12:30 pm)

Sunday, 5/3, 3:00 performance

Trinity High School, Camp Hill PA

at least one other Monday evening TBD
